UCD says it could expel any students found to have been involved in a Facebook group that shared and rated nude photos of female students on the campus.
In an email obtained by JOE sent to students on Monday evening - the University has gone into detail on its investigation into the actions of, allegedly, 200 Agricultural Science students.
The University has promised sanctions against anyone found out to be involved in the controversy, including expulsion, while also promising to support any victims of
those shameful actions.

The College Tribune recently published an article under the headline:UCD Facebook Chat Rating and Sharing Photos of Girls they have Slept with Highlights ‘Toxic’ Lad Culture. The article refers to a specific Ag Science Facebook group which, it alleges, posts nude photos of female students.
The University immediately instigated an investigation:
- To investigate the circumstances and veracity of the report published in the College Tribune
- To reach out and identify any students victimised by inappropriate social media postings with a view to providing supports as required
- To identify the existence of the named site or other similar sites and to identify any students involved in posting inappropriate images of others without their consent
- To determine any illegal activity and refer on to the relevant investigation authorities
- To determine whether there have been breaches of the student code and pursue appropriate disciplinary action.
As part of the investigation, the Dean of Agriculture sought information from student representatives and subsequently contacted all students in the school last week asking them to come forward in confidence with any information on this allegation.
The investigation is progressing. While our primary concern is to support any vulnerable student victimised by this alleged activity, any breaches of the student code that are identified may result in sanctions up to and including expulsion from the University.
The University expects each and every one of our students to respect the dignity of others at all times and to uphold the highest standards both individually and among their peers. This particular allegation brings into stark focus the prevalence in society of postings and comments online which can cause offence and victimisation including: bullying, sexual harassment and discrimination.
While we can deal with the breaches that we uncover or are brought to our attention, I appeal to our community not to show any tolerance for abusive behaviour on social media. I ask that each one of you recognise your responsibility in this regard.
