We’re running out of superlatives to describe this guy, we really are.
The incredible Jason Smyth won another gold medal and broke another world record in front of a packed Olympic Stadium in London last night, cementing his status as the star of the Paralympic Games.
He didn’t just break the world record; he smashed it, coming home in a time of 21.05 seconds, 0.38 seconds faster than his previous World record and nearly a full second (0.90) ahead of his nearest challenger in second place.
Smyth’s achievement couldn’t have come at a better time for Irish sports fans as he ran his race only minutes after the final whistle blew in Kazakhstan, letting us all forget about what was a horror show from the Boys in Green to celebrate the feats of a man who is the Usain Bolt of his own field.
If you missed it, relive his incredible run in the video above and take note of the huge gap between the Derryman and the rest of the field. By the end, there is nobody else even on the screen and it wasn’t exactly a close-up shot either. Yes, he was that dominant.
Congratulations Jason, you’ve done us all proud.
