Natasha Jonas may have lost to Katie Taylor but she gained enough fans in Ireland to get herself free tickets to the All-Ireland hurling final next month.
Natasha Jonas lost to eventual gold medallist Katie Taylor in the quarter-final of the Olympic lightweight tournament in what many commentators have praised as fight of the tournament.
The fight generated the second noisiest crowd of the Olympics, second only to Team GB’s team triumph in Velodrome.
Jonas and Katie have a lot in common, both are high level soccer players as well as boxers.
Jonas was very magnanimous and gracious in defeat prompting many Irish supporters to wish her well on her Twitter page.
Reporting from London in the Irish Independent today Coilín Duffy says the Scouser has been formally invited to Croke Park for the All-Ireland hurling final next month.
Jonas had been partying with Irish fans after Taylor’s victory when she received the invite from GAA Insurance manager Sinead Quinn.
"Natasha is going to come to the All-Ireland hurling final with her coach Dave Alloway from Wales," said Quinn.
"They are big fans of hurling and the Liverpool girl said she is going to come over for the All-Ireland Hurling final. Natasha knows where Croke Park is and she really wants to come over to see the hurling. She is really excited about getting the chance to witness and All-Ireland final and we are really looking forward to having her there."
Quinn added, "We were sorry that she didn't win the Silver, because it was the best fight on Monday."
So that’s all you have to do to get All-Ireland hurling tickets – fight Katie Taylor, we might just check Ebay out instead...
