Weather warning issued for three counties as weekend washout awaits

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news of a Friday morning.

Met Éireann have issued a weather warning for Galway, Cork and Kerry ahead of a weekend where you might just want to stay put on the couch. A Status Yellow rainfall warning was issued as of 4pm Thursday and remains valid until noon on Saturday, with anything from 24-40mm of rain likely to fall over a 12-hour period. While those counties will bear the worst of it, it’s not looking good for the rest of the country either. Despite strong winds in places, Friday is set to get off to a decent start and will be dry for a lot of the day before persistent spells of heavy rain in the west on Friday evening, with the risk of local flooding in parts. Saturday is forecast to get off to a very wet start although conditions should improve throughout the day, when it will be mild with temperatures as high as 19 degrees in places. Sunday, meanwhile, is expected to be cool, bright and breezy with the threat of heavy rain or even hail showers lingering throughout the day ahead of a similarly unsettled start to next week.
