Philomena Lynott is rightly pissed off with Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney over the use of one of her son’s songs, ‘The Boys are Back in Town’ at a recent conservative convention.
By Mike Sheridan
The National Republican Convention was newsworthy for a couple of things, but neither of them had anything to do with politics; rather a confused Clint Eastwood chatting to an empty chair and now this use of the hugely popular Thin Lizzy song.
Lynott spewed to Hot Press Magazine (via The Irish Times), “I am really upset at Philip’s music being used in a political way that he himself would not have approved of.” She added, “Mitt Romney’s opposition to gay marriage and to civil unions for gays makes him anti-gay, which is not something that Philip would have supported.”
Needless to say, she isn’t a supporter of the controversial right-wing candidate or any of his political ideals. “Neither would Philip have supported his policy of taxing the poor and offering tax cuts to the rich, which Paul Ryan is advocating. There is certainly no way that I would want the Lynott name to be associated with any of these ideas.”
No word yet on Obama's entrance music for the Democratic Convention next week...
