Yesterday the remarkable story of Timothy Kurek, a straight-man who spent a year of his life pretending to be gay, ... er, came out
You can hear Kurek’s story from the man himself in the video above. Kurek went to the evangelical Liberty College in the United States and grew up in the bible-belt area of Nashville, Tennessee believing that homosexuality was an abomination.
When a female friend of his came out to him a year ago, Kurek started questioning those beliefs and decided to “walk in the shoes” of a gay man in America to see if his views on homosexuality were wrong.
He came out to his friends and parents, with many friends disowning him and his own religious mother writing in her diary that she would have rathered "contract cancer" than have a gay son.
Kurek did a complete u-turn on his former homophobic views while living for a year as a gay man with only his aunt, uncle and fake boyfriend knowing the truth.
His mother also changed her views.
He has since written a book on his journey called The Cross in the Closet, and you can hear more about Kurek’s story in the video above or by clicking here.
