For 90 minutes last night Mitt Romney and Barack Obama tussled for the first time but the big winner was Sesame Street’s Big Bird. Here’s how.
The first US Presidential debate was all about dometic policy so for the rest of us looking in, it was pretty dull. The people who watched it all tell us this morning that Romney trounced Obama but we are only interested in the big winner of the night, the giant feathered genius that is Big Bird.
As the above clip shows, Romney threatened to cut funding to PBS, the publicly funded station that broadcasts Sesame Street, but he did admit he loved Big Bird.
Immediately, 'Big Bird' began trending on Twitter and became the main topic of debate those who weren’t too interested in the policy detail.
Our favourite bit of the entire thing was Big Bird’s response on Twitter to the news that he (or she, we’re not sure) might lose their job if Romney wins.

To be honest, we’re pretty sure that’s not the real Big Bird but it is nice to see Irish politics isn’t the only place where Muppets can engage in political debate. Badum-tish.
