The sun finally decided to make an appearance in the sky above Ireland yesterday and as always tends to happen as soon as it becomes even the slightest bit warm in this country, people got sunburned.
After experiencing the coldest April in decades last month, it was a much welcome change when the mercury tipped close to 20 degrees yesterday.
Those relatively balmy temperatures prompted Irish people to do what they always do in sunshine, namely whip off their tops en masse, neglect to bother with sun cream and spend the evening nursing their reddened skin and lamenting the farmer’s tan which will linger long after the wind and rain returns.
Some of you might think that yesterday was too mild to do any major damage, but try telling that to Gearoid Markey, whose friend Sean Feeney sent us in this picture of the quite brilliant tan/sunburn lines Gearoid ended up with having obviously spent the day baring his guns under the sunlight.

On the evidence of today so far, it looks like there could be plenty more people suffering a similar fate as Sean if they’re not careful and although we would sympathise with your plight if you are one of them, we’ll also have no hesitation sticking them up if you’d like to send them to shout@joe.ie or to our Facebook and Twitter pages.
