An emotional Brian O’Driscoll: I was in tears before the game in Paris

It was quite the swansong.

Brian O’Driscoll admitted he was in tears before Ireland’s magnificent RBS 6 Nations triumph against France.

The legendary centre bowed out in style as Joe Schmidt’s men sealed a 22-20 victory in Paris to lift the trophy for the first time since 2009.

The 35-year-old conceded that it was a very emotional dressing room before the game.

“There were tears earlier when Joe gave the team talk and there will probably be more later,” he said.

“It is a magnificent achievement and will probably only sink in tomorrow.”

O’Driscoll admitted it was a fairytale ending.

“I was so delighted to go out like this on a high, it was exactly how I wanted.”

He concluded that a second man-of-the-match award in two weeks was a bit much, after he picked up the honour against Italy last week in his final home match.

“Two medals in two weeks seems farcical.”
