Australia snatch dramatic late win over Springboks
South Africa 39-41 Australia
A late Kurtley Beale penalty helped Australia snatch a dramatic victory over South Africa in Bloemfontein on Saturday afternoon.
The Wallabies looked set to coast to a comfortable victory when they led 31-6 just before the break thanks to tries from Beale, James O’Connor, Stephen Moore and Rocky Elsom and eleven points from the boot of Matt Giteau.
Tries from Jacques Fourie, Gurthro Steenkamp and Jean de Villiers, along with 12 points from out half Morne Steyn saw the Springboks regain the lead after an hour.
A converted Drew Mitchell try put the Wallabies back in front once more before Morne Steyn put the hosts back in front with a penalty from the right hand touch line.
Beale had the last laugh with a penalty from the halfway line, however, to ensure that the Wallabies claimed the Nelson Mandela shield and finished ahead of the Springboks in the Tri-Nations table.
