Video: Ronan O’Mahony’s back heel flick try assist was easily the highlight of the weekend’s rugby

Superb instinctive reaction and skill or total fluke? You decide.

Superb instinctive reaction and skill or total fluke? You decide.

The opening weekend of the RaboPRO12 was mixed for the Irish provinces. Leinster eased to win in Wales against Scarlets, while Ulster suffered a shock, losing to the Dragons.

Connacht got off to winning ways under Pat Lam with a home win against Zebre but Munster were arguably the weekend’s most impressive side, sticking five tries on Edinburgh on their way to a 34-23 win.

While an incident towards the end of the game, when Cathal Sheridan kicked the ball out of play early, grabbed a lot of attention, the game also included a very early contender for try of the year.

A grubber kick by Johne Murphy just ran behind Ronan O’Mahony but in a moment of pure skill/luck, he managed to back heel flick the ball into the arms of James Coughlan, who then crossed for an easy try.

Not quite a Zebo-esque move, but they certainly are the masters of the fancy flick in Munster.
