Latest sportsman celebrity Twitter spat: Stephen Ferris v Amir Khan

Well, it’s a spat if you can call a one-way conversation a spat. But Ireland rugby star Stephen Ferris was distinctly unimpressed by Amir Khan’s lack of humility in the Sky Sports studios overnight.

Khan’s compatriot and possible future welterweight rival Kell Brook made a fairly convincing American debut on the undercard of the Andre Ward v Carl Froch Super Six super-middleweight final in Atlantic City.

Brook picked off Puerto Rican fighter Luis Galarza with ease before the bout was eventually stopped in the fifth round.

But speaking in the Sky Sports studio, Khan – who lost his own titles in controversial fashion to Lamont Peterson in Washington last week – reckoned Brook should have brought a conclusion to things even earlier.

“You know I think he could have done a little bit better with the opposition in front of him," said Bolton's third favourite celebrity. "He should have knocked him out in the earlier rounds. I think it was a first or second round fight.”

That prompted a rebuke from Ulster and Ireland rugby star Ferris, with the Lions flanker tweeting:
