Leinster and sometime Ireland back Luke Fitzgerald has revealed that he could leave the country if a good offer comes from a foreign club.
Fitzgerald has been out of the picture at international level since missing out on a place in Declan Kidney’s squad for the World Cup in New Zealand last year.
The 24-year-old has scored two tries in ten RaboDirect PRO12 games this season but has slipped behind Leinster teammate Fergus McFadden, Munster’s Simon Zebo and Connacht’s Tiernan O’Halloran for a place in the squad.
And although he insists that he loves life at Leinster, Fitzgerald admits he has considered the option of making the move abroad.
Speaking on Setanta Sports iTalkSport show on Sunday, he said, “I’m in the middle of [contract negotiations] at the moment but I leave it to my agent.
“I absolutely love Leinster and love Ireland and all my family are here. But there’s always scope for [moving abroad]. At some stage, I think it would be a great experience. Not just for me rugby-wise but to test myself in a different environment.”
France or England would be the likeliest destinations, but there’s always the possibility of a move to the Southern Hemisphere and the Super 15. Who knows, his old Leinster pal Rocky Elsom might be able to sort him out with a place to stay...
