A pre-recorded video celebrating England’s Grand Slam victory has been leaked to the public. Ain’t karma a bitch?
Massive sports manufacturer Nike, the official gear provider for the England rugby team, were seemingly so smugly confident of an England victory over Ireland that would seal their status as Grand Slam champions, that they commissioned a video congratulating the swan-diving Chris Ashton, the Una Healy-stealing Ben Foden, the petulant Ben Youngs and the rest of Martin Johnson’s side.
Instead, Ireland produced a brilliant performance to earn a 24-8 victory over their bitter rivals to salvage some pride after an ultimately disappointing Six Nations campaign, a victory that was enough to see Declan Kidney’s men surpass England in the latest edition of the IRB World Rankings.
The slickly-produced video, which you can view below, features slow-motion footage of Foden, Ashton and Toby Flood in embarrassingly cringe-worthy poses, before the word ‘Onwards’ – a reference to the Rugby World Cup later this year and a banner reading Grand Slam Champions 2011, complete with the obligatory Nike swoosh, appear on screen and bring the video to a close.
Nike also had t-shirts commissioned to celebrate the Grand Slam victory, which you can see here (via Jamie Heaslip's Twitter page).
We hope you laugh as hard as we did.
P.S. They removed the first two videos, but luckily for us, yet another video has since appeared on YouTube.
