Video: They call Tendai Mtawarira 'The Beast'. Here's why

29/05/2012 12:55 pm

Everyone knows South Africa do props better than anyone else, but Tendai “The Beast” Mtawarira has taken things to a new level.

Os du Randt is regarded by many as the greatest prop in the history of the game while fans in this part of the world are familiar with the capabilities of props like BJ Botha (now Munster, formerly Ulster) and Leinster’s double Heineken Cup winner Heinke van der Merwe.

But none of that trio – or anyone else in world rugby for that matter – could manage a trick like the one below from Mtawarira during a Super 15 game between South African rivals Sharks and Stormers at the weekend.

To give you some sense of the achievement, the teammate he lifts, Anton Bresler, is a second row who's six-foot-six and almost 18 stone. Crikey.
