Cue the inevitable ‘That was a rubbish clearance kick’ jokes...
You have probably come across some, let’s just call them ‘questionable’, rugby skills videos over the years where famous players throw balls at various targets from impossible looking distances and positions, but Wasps’ Elliot Daly pulled off something even better at the weekend and he didn’t even mean it... at least we think he didn’t.
The young full-back was clearing his lines during Wasps’ Aviva Premiership clash with Exeter Chiefs on Sunday and from well inside his own 22, he managed to kick the ball 60 yards down the field and straight into a rubbish bin located just beyond the advertising hoardings at the side of the pitch.
The sight of the ball landing in the bin was greeted with the customary ironic cheer from the crowd and although Daly is tipped for a big future in the game, he’ll do well to top this in his career before he hangs up his boots.
