It wasn’t quite as good as THAT Simon Zebo flick against Wales, but this is pretty impressive from Dimitri Yachvili all the same.
In times gone by, fancy flicks were the sort of thing that would earn you a couple of subtle digs come ruck time on a rugby field but thanks to the likes of Simon Zebo and Dimitri Yachvili, the game seems to be turning over a new leaf.
The scrum-half helped set up a try for Biarritz on Friday night with a bit of trickery that wouldn’t look out of place on a football pitch, first knocking the ball away from a Grenoble defender with his left foot and then using the same foot to backheel the ball in the direction of Magnus Lund, who managed to pick it up and eventually fell over the line for a try in Biarritz’s 33-16 victory.
Yachvili’s back-heel wasn’t the most perfectly executed or anything like that but it worked and the little scrum-half is one of the few players who would have even thought about trying it.
Better than Zebo’s flick? Probably not. Want to watch that Zebo flick again for old time’s sake? Go on then.
Hat-tip to the lads at Rugby Dump for this one.
