Did you guess Danny Cipriani? Then you’re on the money as the 24-year old has agreed to join the Sale Sharks from the Melbourne Rebels on a three-year deal.

The talented but wayward out-half will join luminary talents such as Tony Buckley at the Aviva Premiership side when his two-year stint with the Rebels finishes at the end of this season.

Given his rather turbulent past, Sale are taking something of a risk by putting their faith in Cipriani, obviously hoping that the player they sign will be the man who looked like Jonny Wilkinson’s successor a few years back rather than the one who subsequently lost his way.

"Quality signings such as Danny are a massive statement of intent from the Sharks as we aim to become a Super Northern club," said Sale coach and chief executive Steve Diamond.

"Danny has been targeted by many European clubs, but has chosen to be based in Manchester as he feels that the Sharks give him the best opportunity to fulfil his aspirations to be the number one fly-half in England by the time of the 2015 World Cup."

Considering that Owen Farrell has looked quite impressive of late and is a few years younger than Cipriani, the man who once reportedly considered a football career in the MLS has quite a job on his hands if he’s to reclaim the England number ten shirt.

Cipriani endured something of a turbulent time Down Under, having been guilty of a number of disciplinary breaches including the theft of alcohol while drunk in a nightclub, an incident that resulted in him being temporarily kicked out of the Rebels’ squad by his teammates.

It hasn’t been all bad for Cipriani, however, certainly not when it comes to the ladies. He was once lucky enough to have dated the stunning Kelly Brook and was also linked with gorgeous Aussie model Lara Bingle during his stint Down Under.

Some fellas just have all the luck.
