This week’s second round ties served up some scintillating football and as per usual, there were some things we loved and some things we hated…
Chelsea were tough to breakdown in Paris, Shakhtar and Bayern played out a snoozefest, while Schalke just weren’t good enough against Real Madrid and Porto were denied victory by the linesman’s offside flag.
Here’s what we loved and what we hated from this week’s action.
LOVE
The end of Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘drought.’
Three games without a goal isn’t a cause for concern for most players. This guy isn’t like most footballers though, and we were delighted to see him back on the score sheet.
Marcelo’s weaker foot
The last time JOE tried this with our weaker foot we broke a hip. Well done Marcelo, this is awesome.
David Luiz being a brat
We love mischevious footballers and Luiz is up there with the best of them. Clearing the vanishing spray from the ground was the perfect example of this.
HATE
Racism
A small group of Chelsea fans let themselves, their club and humanity down. For more on this appalling issue, click here.
Basel’s attacking play
Basel are attempting to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 1973-74. If they’re going to get their, they’ll have to be better in attack than they did against Porto in their first-leg.
They scored from their only shot on target and were lucky to escape with a draw. The Swiss side will have to be a lot better in the second leg, if they’re going to make history.
