This is going to be HUGE.

The saga has been ongoing for weeks and now we finally have an answer, Conor McGregor will fight Eddie Alvarez for the UFC lightweight title at UFC 205.

The card takes place on November 12, in Madison Square Garden in New York in what will be the UFC’s first ever event in the state.

In a move that will surprise many people, McGregor will not relinquish his featherweight crown in order to take this fight and will continue to hold up the 145 division.

UFC President Dana White announced bout late Monday night on ESPN’s SportsCenter.

White had repeatedly said that any fight with Alvarez with be against Khabib Nurmagomedov only over the past few days but once again, money talks, and the UFC have pulled the proverbial rabbit from the hat to produce the kind of main event that will surely draw massive Pay-Per-View numbers.

Alvarez won the lightweight belt in his last fight with Rafael dos Anjos, when he starched the Brazilian in the opening round to cause an upset. He has wins in the division over Gilbert Melendez and former champion Anthony Pettis as well as a loss to Donald Cerrone.

The 32-year-old is a former Bellator champion and it was clear from the outset that his main goal was to land himself a pay day with The Notorious.

One thing is for sure, this superfight is going to be a massive occasion for the UFC and if McGregor can defeat Alvarez, he will become the first man to hold two UFC titles simultaneously.

Can he do it?
