Ian Harte has announced his retirement from football at the age of 37

Say it ain't so

Thanks for all the memories.

Ian Harte, former Ireland full-back and dead-ball specialist, took to Twitter this morning to announce that he was retiring from football.

Harte, who is now 37, was an integral part of the Ireland team that qualified for the 2002 World Cup – scoring three goals in the qualification process.

The Drogheda man scored 12 goals in 63 games for his country, a phenomenal record for a full-back.

Harte also had a distinguished club career, making into the Premier League team of the season in 1999-2000, and playing 66 games for Spanish club Levante.

Here’s one of Harte’s most memorable moments in an Ireland jersey.

Ian Harte played his last game for Ireland in 2007, and won promotion to the Premier League with Bournemouth last season before being released by the club.
