It has been a bittersweet night for Irish boxing fans as Kenny Egan has confirmed that he’s hanging up the gloves for good.

The announcement came after Joe Ward beat Egan in the National Stadium tonight and Kenny's decision to take his well-deserved retirement has been well received on twitter.

Egan was treated to a standing ovation in the National Stadium following his match with Ward and boxing fans around the country will surely miss seeing the Clondalkin man in the ring.

So if you’re heading out tonight, make sure to have one for Kenny. On the plus side, at least he’ll have more time to go shopping for sharp suits.
