Mark Lawrenson certainly wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea as a football commentator, but up until tonight we can’t remember too many examples of him saying something that could genuinely be interpreted as offensive. Following Arsenal’s first goal in their excellent victory over Bayern Munich this evening, Lawrenson, commentating on TV3, made the suggestion that goalscorer Olivier Giroud would have a big nose because he is French.
