Mayo’s long, long wait for an All-Ireland title has stretched to 65 years after their failure to win it last year, but the optimism of their long-suffering supporters shows no signs of dwindling just yet. The fabled Mayo for Sam campaign appears to start earlier and earlier every year and frankly, it can get a bit tiresome at times (your humble author says that as a native of the county himself). We’re only in the middle of January and with new manager Stephen Rochford having overseen just two FBD League games so far, some chancer is predicting great things for the Green and Red in 2016. Check out the All-Ireland Championship Wikipedia page, for example, and you'll see it's been edited to predict a truly emphatic victory for Mayo over reigning champs Dublin in the final in Croke Park in September. It will probably be edited accordingly before too long so here’s the screenshot. So emphatic is the victory, in fact, that goalkeeper David Clarke is even expected to get on the scoresheet in a 35-point win. First the Old Moore’s Almanac and now this; could it finally be Mayo’s year?
