This would be huge…

It’s only been a few short weeks since Conor McGregor fought an absolute war with Nate Diaz at UFC 202, a fight which ended in a majority decision win for the Dubliner.

Following the fight Dana White laid out the options facing The Notorious when it comes to his next fight.

Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting, one of the world’s best known MMA journalists, has said the preferred fight for the UFC is Conor McGregor fighting Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title at UFC 205.

UFC 205 is a huge event as it’s the promotion’s first fight card in New York City, and the event will take place on 12 November in Madison Square Garden.

But, according to Helwani, there’s one obstacle in the way of this fight that’s preventing it from happening, and if this gets sorted, we could have a huge fight on our hands.

Alvarez won the lightweight belt in his last outing when he produced a stunning performance to TKO Rafael dos Anjos in the opening round. He also holds notable wins over Nate Diaz’s training partner Gilbert Melendez and Anthony Pettis.

It remains to be seen if this fight goes ahead, will McGregor be forced to give up his featherweight title or will he continue to hold up the 145 division?

Only time will tell.
