Sad news this morning.
US golfer Arnold Palmer, commonly regarded as one of the finest players in the sport’s history, has sadly passed away at the age of 87.
Palmer is credited with helping to elevate golf from the elite country club pass time to the sport that is played by millions around the world today.
He passed away yesterday at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he had been undergoing heart tests according to the Pittsburgh Post – Gazette.
“We are deeply saddened by the death of Arnold Palmer, golf’s greatest ambassador, at age 87,” the United States Golfing Association said Sunday night.
Palmer was known at the “the King,” and thrilled fans for decades with his rivalry with Jack Nicklaus, but he was also a mentor to many young players and his name will forever by synonymous with golf.
He won over 90 golf tournaments during his successful career including the Masters four times, the U.S. Open in 1960, and the British Open in 1961 and 1962.
He will be forever remembered as a legend of the game…
