We’ll readily admit that we’re clutching at straws revisiting archive footage from an era that is vastly different to professional rugby today, but watching a nostalgic clip of Brian O’Driscoll’s hat-trick is more stirring than reading some bland clichés from Declan Kidney, right?

Sadly, our talisman won’t be present in the Stade de France today, but after last week’s (belated) flourish against the Italians, perhaps the likes of Tommy Bowe, Keith Earls or Andrew Trimble can step into the skipper’s shoes.

O’Driscoll’s tries really are inspirational to watch, as is Denis Hickie’s stunning last-gasp tackle and if you look hard enough, you’ll see JOE contributor Malcolm O’Kelly make one glorious half-break and offload and set up O’Driscoll’s first try with some seriously deft hands.

Is it asking too much for a repeat performance today? Maybe, but stranger things have happened.
