Monday’s Olympic Chaos Story Number 1: Irish gymnast live tweets his London transport problems

For only the second time in our history, Ireland is sending a gymnast to the Olympics. But Kieran Behan has an obstacle to climb before he even starts competing; getting to the venue.

That Kieran Behan is even competing at the Olympics is remarkable. An operation to remove a tumour in his leg put him a wheelchair when he was just 10. He battled back from that before a training injury aged 12 damaged his brain, preventing him from returning to the gym for three years while he re-learned how to move his body.

Add in the fact that two years ago he ruptured the cruciate ligament in both his knees and his place on Ireland’s Olympic squad is truly remarkable.

For that reason he was taking his travel travails this morning in his stride. Last week reports of four-hour journeys by buses trying to take athletes from the airport to the Olympic village filled the press and now it seems the transport issues have appeared again.

Behan tweeted this morning about his trip to the venue.

We suspect this won't be the last travel issue we hear about but we doubt many other athletes will take the delay in such a good way.
