Paddy Power's Batty Bets: Aliens and Katie Taylor
'Life on Mars' and 'What Katie did' are two top songs by David Bowie and The Libertines respectively and you can make some money on them in reality thanks to Paddy Power.
Life on Mars
As NASA's Curiosity continues its adventure on the Martian surface, we’re taking bets on whether the $2.5-billion science probe will find conclusive evidence of past life on the Red Planet.
Paddy Power are offering short odds of 5/6 that Curiosity will indeed be successful in finding evidence of past life on Mars before the end of 2020. However, proof of an intelligent creature, ideally in the shape of a woman with three boobs, being found is considered a far less likely 20/1 shot according to their odds.
In other extra-terrestrial betting news, USA has been sliced in to 4/1 favourite, ahead of both Russia and China, to be the first country to establish direct ‘first contact’ with an intelligent alien civilisation. Ireland meanwhile remains a 25/1 outsider.
What Katie did
With the world seemingly at her feet, we are taking bets on what lies ahead for Olympic gold medal winning heroine Katie Taylor. With ridiculously short odds of 1/100, winning this year’s RTE Sports Personality of the Year is practically a given according to our odds.
Katie is also heavily tipped at odds 5/4 to switch on this year’s Christmas lights at the Mansion House in Dublin while she’s 6/1 to be shouting “C’mon lads” at a bunch of intermediate footballers on Celebrity Bainisteoir.
It’s 11/4 that our very own Muhammad Ali disappoints her fans by announcing her retirement in 2012, 33/1 to have a sanctioned fight with a male boxer (please make it Craig Doyle!).
Meanwhile, we’re also betting on who will play Katie Taylor in a movie. Here, Saoirse Ronan is the 8/1 favourite followed by Kristen Stewart at 10/1 while teeny bopping twerp Miley Cyrus is thankfully a massive longshot at 33/1.
