Someone has just won $17million in a poker tournament
The world’s most valuable poker tournament has just ended, with the winner, Antonio Esfandiari, pocketing over $17m.
Anyone who has ever played poker will tell you that there is an awful lot of skill, and a little bit of luck, involved in coming out on top in a game. To win a tournament that contains all the best players in the world requires enormous amounts of skill and a little bit of luck.
So hats off to Antonio Esfandiari, who has won the richest poker prize ever, over $17m, in Las Vegas last night.
The event, called The Big One for One Drop, was a charity event linked to the World Series of Poker, and it had just 48 players. To enter you had to put up $1m, so only the very best, and the very wealthy, were playing.
Esfandiari is a professional poker player, and former magician, who was born in Tehran but grew up in California. Esfandiari held off poker royalty like Phil Hellmuth and Phil Ivey to win the prize, making the 33-year-old very, very wealthy indeed.
But the runner-up, Sam Trickett, didn’t do too badly either, as he went home with $10.1m.
Looks like we’re in the wrong business.
