Hayley O’Connor takes on the might of the JOE sports team each week in a Premier League betting challenge. Here’s the opening punts…

With international football off the agenda for a while, all our attention can return back to Premier League football, and for the next four weeks, we will be battling one of the sharpest gambling minds in the country to see who knows the most about the beautiful game.

Hayley O’Connor of Ladbrokes, a very familiar face to anyone who watches or attends race meetings in Ireland or the UK, is taking on the JOE team in a Premier League betting challenge.

Each week Hayley and JOE will each put on an accumulator and the side with the most cash at the end of the challenge wins. Simples.

Here’s Hayley’s picks for Week 1:

Swansea to beat Sunderland, 8/13

There might be a new man in charge of the Black Cats, but they are not getting anything from their trip to Wales, sorry Gustavo…

Man City to beat West Ham, 4/6

Big Sam managed to stun Spurs the last day but Manchester City are too good to go the same way

Crystal Palace to beat Fulham, 13/8

A Monday Night Football game for the ages (joking) but we really don’t fancy Fulham and think that Palace can get a precious three points at home

That treble comes in at around 7/1, so for Hayley’s €100 bet, a potential €700 return awaits.

And here’s JOE’s picks:

Liverpool to beat Newcastle, 17/20

This game always has goals and we think Suarez and Sturridge will get far more than the men in black and white

Arsenal to beat Norwich, 2/7

With Ozil back fit, the Gunners should have too much firepower for the Canaries

Swansea and Sunderland to draw, 14/5

Unlike our new rival, we think Poyet will have had an impact on his troops. Not enough for a win but Swansea have been hit and miss too. Looks like a draw to us.

With this treble worth a juicy 9/1, JOE is set to take the lead if this one lands. Which it will. Sorry Hayley.

We’ll know for sure next week so check back then for an update.
