F1 will award double points for final race in order to spice things up

Formula 1 bosses have decided to change the points scoring system for the last race in future seasons in order to jazz things up a bit.

Are you sick and tired of seeing Sebastian Vettel (pictured above) winning F1 championships year on year? Well a new points scoring system, or as many people on social media are calling it, ‘a gimmick’, will see double points being awarded in the last race of every season from now on.

The aim of the new points scoring system is to keep things fresh and interesting or as the FIA put it, to “maximise focus on the championship until the end of the campaign”.

The decision was unanimously approved at a meeting in Paris of teams in the F1 Strategy Group and Formula One Commission, reports Euronews.com.

The decision hasn’t gone down well with fans and as we said above many see it as just a gimmick. Next year’s season-ending race is the night race in Abu Dhabi on November 23, so we’ll have to wait until then to see if the new rule will have any actual effect on the points board.
