The June Bank Holiday is quickly becoming a Formula 1 Bank Holiday in Dublin. Not only will Jenson Button be whizzing around the streets of the capital as the star attraction of Bavaria City Racing, but Irish men can also get behind the wheel of a fantastic F1 simulator at Arnotts.
The simulator is being brought to Dublin by Swiss watch-maker Certina, a company with close links to all things Formula 1 – the 2012 F1 season marks its eighth as a main sponsor of the Sauber F1 team.
Button & Co (check out all the Bavaria City Racing attractions over here) will bring Dublin city literally to a standstill on Sunday June 3, but for the long weekend – from first thing Friday morning until Monday afternoon – the Certina F1 Simulator will be on show in Arnotts.
So what is the F1 Simulator exactly? Unless you happen to be among the lucky few who gets behind the wheel of the real thing – and the facts are that Eddie Irvine and Ralph Firman are the only Irishmen to have done so in the last 20 years – then the Certina F1 Simulator is very likely to be the F1 experience of your lifetime.
You will get the vibrations, the noise, the view and controls of an F1 car as you take a spin around the Silverstone National Circuit, with a warm-up lap to dust off any rustiness before you set your time on a flying lap.
There will be special prizes on offer for fastest lap-times over the weekend, as well as something that money will never be able to buy – the prestige that you trumped everyone in Ireland by posting the quickest time in an F1 simulator.
JOE will be bringing you all the latest with a special on-site live-blog as the Certina F1 Simulator starts rolling on Friday morning while 98FM’s Dermot & Dave show will also come live from Arnotts on Saturday afternoon.
How to get behind the wheel:
The closing date to register your name for the Certina F1 Simulator is 10pm this Friday (June 1), so you must send an email to Certinaf1Arnotts@ir.swatchgroup.com before then if you're to be in with a chance to get behind the wheel.
The Certina F1 Simulator takes place at the following times:
Friday June 1: 9.30am to 4pm
Saturday June 2: 9.30am to 7pm
Sunday June 3: 12pm to 5.30pm
Monday June 4: 11am to 5pm (followed by an awards ceremony)
