With a host of brand spanking new stadiums around the country, the Irish Greyhound Board has been moving with the times with the best of them in recent years. So it’s no surprise that they should lead the way in mobile apps too.
If you’re a devoted devourer of greyhound racing news, then “Talking Dogs” online newspaper is your one-stop shop, with multiple updates every day on everything ranging from the latest race night reviews to big race entries and everything in between.
The race cards element is another exceptional facility for everyone in the greyhound community – far from rifling through the morning newspaper in search of the entries for the fourth race at Shelbourne Park, you have all the information in your pocket at the swipe of a touchscreen.
Also for the hardcore fan, the archive of results is dazzling in its depth. Choose a date from the dropdown and you’ll get all the info from the past few weeks, months ... or even years. We went back to 1995 and were still getting results from around the country – kudos to everyone involved for such an excellent database of information.
So you won’t miss a thing with the news, racecards and results sections of the app, but even if you’re a more casual greyhound racing observer, or you’re thinking of heading along for the first time, there should be plenty for you here.
The stadium info of all the tracks around Ireland is tailored brilliantly for the app-downloading generation – you get the basic information, such as forthcoming fixture dates and a phone number for restaurant reservations, but you get much more besides. The mapping function, which makes brilliant use of Google Maps, is invaluable if you’re making the trip to, say, Mullingar Greyhound Stadium or Harold’s Cross for the first time and you might not know the hinterland.
Special offers are broken down by each greyhound stadium too, such as the ultra-attractive €12 per person finger food package at Kilcohan Park Waterford or the €9.99 special offer for iPhone app users at Curraheen Park.
