Fancy going for a wander on a slack rope off the top of a cliff?

It’s been on the go for quite a while, but apparently the extreme sport of slacklining has experienced a surge in popularity lately. Looks like fun.

Slacklining is similar to tightrope-walking except for one obvious thing – the rope is not taut, instead, as the Wikipedia entry says, “stretching and bouncing like a long and narrow trampoline”.

The record for the highest slackline was set in August 2006 by a maniac called Christian Schou, who walked across a nylon rope 1000 metres above the ground in Norway.

That’s more than 3000 feet, or around the same height as Carrauntuohill.
