As tennis shots go, this is one of the best we’ve ever seen.
The old between-the-legs shot has almost become commonplace in modern tennis. Don’t get us wrong, we still like to see them but it takes something special to get our attention these days. This does the trick.
French player Gael Monfils was playing Juan Martin Del Potro in Rotterdam and with apparently all hope lost, Monfils made a desperate lunge to hit the ball between his legs at full stretch. Somehow he not only got the ball back in play, but he forced an error from Del Potro, and won the point.
And check out this version of the point, where you can see better just how far from the net Monfils was when he hit the shot, and how accurate his effort was. Skip to 3.25 to see it.
As the French might say, c'est magnifique.
