We’re all hoping for an Irish success at Augusta next Sunday but last night, Irish wrestler Sheamus won the World Heavyweight title. Surprisingly, it was in controversial fashion.
Probably due to the late hour it was on, none of the morning press or radio reports are picking up on Ireland’s latest world champion. That or they don’t think the WWE is real but we’re going with the first option.
Last night, in front of an astonishing crowd of over 78,000 in Florida, the pale-skinned Dubliner beat Daniel Bryan to take the belt but wouldn’t you know it, it was a little bit dodgy.
In the fine tradition of these things, while Bryan was receiving a good luck kiss from his main squeeze AJ, Sheamus landed his trademark ‘Brogue Kick’ on Bryan, before pinning him to take the crown. The entire ‘match’ lasted 18 seconds.
The crowd in Miami Gardens were not happy but Ireland has a new champion. We’ll take ‘sporting’ glory where we can get it these days.
Now we just need to bring Sheamus home for the next Troika meeting. Himself and Phil ‘The Hulk’ Hogan could be a lethal tag team.
