The biggest news is about Arsenal being the subject of a huge take over bid from a consortium based in the Middle East. The figures being bandied about are pretty huge, and would also wipe out all of the club’s debt.

They fancy grabbing 100% of the club, and will oust the American Stan Kroenke from the hot seat there. Arsene Wenger’s position would be less clear should they be successful. The bid is expected within a few weeks.

Turning our attention to Manchester United, the talk has revolved around a bid for Crisitano Ronaldo. In the build up to another huge clash between Real Madrid and the Premier League leaders, the focus is on the Portuguese, who clearly holds a special place in his heart for United.

Ferguson, however, has rubbished claims that there has been any encouragement for them to make an approach for Ronaldo, insisting that the rumours are all part of “the game” of contract negotiations by the player’s agent.

Andre Villas Boas has warned any suitors for Gareth Bale that he will be extremely pricey, and given the form he’s in we can see why.

He stated that he doesn’t think Bale needs to leave England to improve as a player, and reminded anyone hoping to make a bid that Daniel Levy is “very, very difficult to deal with”, so at least if he does leave there’ll be a huge amount of money coming in.

Newcastle are looking at more French-based players, but this time from Ligue 2 as they have been eyeing up Gianni Imbula, a 20-year-old midfielder. The club have also parted ways with Niall Ranger in a case of “mutual consent” and while no reason was given, he has had a few legal troubles lately as well as a poor relationship with the fans.

Martin O’Neill seems to have given his shopping list for the summer to his chief executive early this year, as Margaret Byrne has stated that Sunderland have several names on their radar, including options should the first choices not work out. With talk of goalkeeper Mignolet wanting out of the club, then we imagine there’s at least one keeper’s name on that list.

Finally, Son Heung-min, who might not be a very familiar name to those who don’t watch the Bundesliga, has decided to hold off on signing a new contract at Hamburg until he sees how their plans develop. The 20-year-old is highly touted and has been a target for both Liverpool and Arsenal, so this is an encouraging sign for both clubs in their pursuit of him.
