The world of 3D as home entertainment hasn't quite taken off as quickly as electronic giants might have hoped, so Sony have resorted to new measures... a lenticular sleeve?
That's right, if you want the world of eye-popping 3D to come to you then all you'll need is this fancy sleeve, which even provides the technology in the much less socially embarrassing glasses-free form.
Together with Sony's Vaio S Series, the sheet helps display 3D images without the need for glasses by using a lenticular method that creates a parallax through an multitude of lenses. But you already knew that.

We estimate that the ensuing image will be a lot more impressive than this garbage
According to tech blog Akihabara News, it gets even better. Since the Vaio's web camera's built-in software automatically recognises the head position of its user to ensure the best quality picture possible, this effect, coupled with the lenticular sheet, should heighten the immersion of your new 3D experience.
The lenticular technology used by Sony is similar to that of Nintendo's 3DS console and Toshiba already-released range of glasses-free 3D laptops and TVs, although the aforementioned camera software is the real killer app.
Simply put, the addition of face recognition tech should be a huge boost in creating a stable picture for the user, a vital component for enjoying 3D, as anyone who has thrown up all over their 3DS console during a particularly vigorous gaming session can attest to.
Now cough up your €129, as that's how much the sheet will cost when it arrives in stores next month.
Whether or not this novel use of lenticular technology is the savour of 3D remains to be seen, but if you're reading this article while staring at your boring 2D monitor, we assume you'll certainly want to try out the 3D effect for yourself.
