Facebook to cut messaging service from mobile app so you’ll have to use Messenger app

Want to message someone on Facebook on your mobile? Of course you do. But you won't be able to do it on the good old Facebook app for much longer. Facebook announced today that in the next few weeks the chat facility will be disabled on their iOS and Android app, forcing users to fire up the stand alone Messenger app to send the Facebook message. They tried to do this a few months back but if you didn't have Messenger you were safe. Now you will be forced to have Messenger so you can chat. Mashable carry quotes from a Facebook spokesperson. "Today we are starting to notify people that messages are moving out of the Facebook app and over to the Messenger app. To continue sending messages on mobile, people will need to install the Messenger app." If you already have both apps downloaded then when you try to message on the main app the Messenger app will automatically open. If you don't have Messenger downloaded, now might be a good time before you get bombarded with not so subtle reminders from Facebook to do so. TechCrunch say the messaging service in the main app will gone in a fortnight but the company have yet to confirm that. But it seems the days of messaging on your Facebook app are numbered. Why Facebook would do this remains a mystery to us, and to everyone on social media based on the reaction so far, but we're sure Mark Zuckerberg has a plan.
