Facebook users warned over new email spam

Do you use Facebook? Who are we kidding, of course you do. Well you better watch out as there's a new scam going around which could potentially affect Irish Facebook users.

If you use the internet on a regular basis you’ll probably know a scam when you see one. If the image quality is poor or if the text is worded by a obvious non-native speaker then you can be pretty certain that the African prince who is leaving you his fortune is just a scam artist trying to steal your details.

However, there’s a new Facebook email scam that’s going around and it looks fairly convincing.

Users are being warned to be careful when opening unsolicited email attachments, after a malicious Trojan horse was found to be posing as a Facebook notification that claims you’ve been tagged in a newly uploaded photograph. When you unknowingly open the attachment you end up getting infected.

Obviously, the emails aren’t coming from Facebook like they say they are, so that should be the first indication that something is up. Secondly, the email doesn't actually show an image of you or your mate, so that should be indication no.2.

Just make sure to take a look at the fake email below and be wary of any future emails you may receive that seem a bit fishy:

I think everybody should check out the Scam Detector app. I believe they're online as well.

I only use Facebook to stalk my wife's hot friends. I don't actually click on any messages, I know which pictures I want to be looking at, mostly tagged 'bikini' or beach', so I think I will be OK until she catches me with her iPad in the toilet again.
