Google really embrace April Fool’s Day but they have outdone themselves this year with a very special version of Google Maps.
If you remember this date last year Google tried to fool us with a motion-sensitive Gmail account, which caught a lot of people, many of whom wished they had in fact invented such a thing.
Anyway, this year we wondered what the search giant would come up with and we think they have done even better this year. Firstly watch the below video, where Google ‘announce’ the launch of Google Maps for Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in all its 8-bit glory.
That would have been cool enough but the also have changed the real Google Maps, with the simple click of the Quest button in the top right of your screen.
It instantly changes your screen to a Zelda-like world while Streetview, with O'Connell Street in Dublin pictured above, is glorious if a little hard on the eyes.
Enjoy it while it lasts though we would happily campaign for Google to keep it as a permanent option.
