Hooray for stalking as Facebook hits the billion user mark

More and more of us are seemingly keen on stalking our attractive colleagues as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerburg has revealed that the social network is used by a billion people a month.

Ok, so stalking is not everyone’s main motive for using the site, but in their heart of hearts the majority of people would admit that the ability to do so is one of its main attractions, in this country anyway.

The site’s popularity continues to soar worldwide with company founder and Über geek Mark Zuckerburg revealing yesterday that more than a billion people are using the site every single month.

“Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life,” Zuckerburg said.

“We are committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.

With great popularity comes great responsibility, however, and with the company recently floated on the stock exchange, Facebook will seek to increase its monetary power in a bid to satisfy increasing shareholders and attract new ones, according to the Irish Independent.

The promotion of status updates by paying for them is one avenue being explored by Zuckerburg and his cohorts, while pushing specific advertisements on users based on their profile and interests is also thought to be an option.

Now if they could only sort out that Timeline glitch everyone's been talking about...
