It might be 2015 before you get your hands on the new, larger screen, iPhone 6

With the World Cup now all done and dusted, we can turn our mind to other things, like what our next phone will be. As always, the new iPhone is at or near the top of the list but news coming from Apple Insider means we might have to wait a while.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a man who seems to have an inside track on Apple’s production schedules, posted a memo on Sunday that has since been reproduced on Apple Insider.

The big news is that the larger iPhone 6, rumoured to have a 5.5inch screen, may not be ready until 2015 due to production issues. Problems with ‘in-cell touch panel’ and uneven colouring on the new metal casings of the ‘regular’ 4.7inch iPhone 6 are thought to be an even bigger problem on the bigger phone. Other problems with the screen’s sensitivity near the edges and how it copes with a ‘drop test’ mean that a 2015 release date for the bigger phone is more likely, according to Kuo.

The smaller iPhone 6 is still expected to be out well before Christmas, to tap into that market, but we might have to wait just that little bit longer for the super-sized iPhone.
