When you’re choosing a username for your Twitter account, having one that happens to be the same as a major company can have its drawbacks.

Like in the case of Natalie Westerman, a 22-year-old who abbreviated her name into the nicely succinct Nat West for the purposes of the brevity-favouring social network.

But with Natwest Bank hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the last few days – which customers of its Irish subsidiary Ulster Bank will know all about – Ms Westerman has found herself singled out for some cyber abuse.

The tweets in her direction prompted her to change her Twitter bio to “I am a 22 year old woman and I’m not a bank.”

While it may be no laughing matter for Natwest, Nat West herself was seeing the funny sight of things:
