Video: Samsung’s brilliant and none-too-subtle attack on the iPhone 5 in new advert
Current iPhone users or those anxiously awaiting the arrival of the iPhone 5 next week may not appreciate this ad, but it’s pretty good work on Samsung’s behalf.
The relationship between Samsung and Apple has been fraught of late owing to the legal battle between the two, with Samsung forced to pay over $1 billion dollars in damages recently over claims they infringed on a number of Apple patents.
Samsung waited patiently to exact a little revenge on their big rival, however, and helped dampen the worldwide buzz surrounding the release of the iPhone 5 this week with a pretty obvious dig at what the new phone has to offer.
Featuring snippets of fans queuing for a new phone all over America, the Samsung ad doesn’t directly reference the iPhone 5, but the headphones, the Apple-style advertising font and the hints at the new features that will be included in the iPhone 5 make it pretty clear where Samsung’s attack is directed.
Going on the theme ‘The Next big thing is already here’, the ad implies that the Samsung Galaxy S3 already has the same features promised by the iPhone 5 and a little more to boot.
Considering that it has already clocked up nearly eight million views in three days on YouTube, Samsung certainly seem to have succeeded in getting their point across, although somehow we don’t expect it to have a drastic effect on sales of the iPhone 5 worldwide.
