We're sure by now that you've had a little mess around with today's Google Doodle, but what exactly is it and why has it been chosen?
Today’s Google Doodle is one of the best yet, not just because it’s one of the most interactive to date, but because you can record and keep whatever music you make, which can also be shared on Google+. But what is it? Some sort of piano? Or is it just an electric keyboard?
No, it’s actually much more than just a keyboard. Some of the old-schoolers out there will instantly recognise it as an analog Moog synthesiser. So why pick that when there are so many other choices?
Well, the man who pioneered the commercial manufacture of modular voltage-controlled analog synthesisers systems back in the early 1950s was a man by the name of Robert Moog. Before hand, synthesisers were big, bulky and expensive to make, but with some pioneering technology, Robert Moog was able to make them cheaper and far more reliable than pervious versions.
Sadly, Moog died back in 2005, but he would have been 78 today. So the doodle is just a little thank you to the man that brought a new wave of music into so many people’s lives.
Now, all that’s left for you to do is waste most of the day playing with your browser’s home screen. Here’s a little hint: you can use the numbers on your keyboard to make the Moog play.
