According to the Independent, searches for ‘Pokemon Go’ on Google have overtaken searches for ‘porn’, which usually sets a seedy high bar when it comes to the volume of searches on the world’s most popular search engine.
Bad enough that there was a MASSIVE increase in the number of searches for Pokemon on Pornhub in recent days, there are now more searches for Pokemon on Google than for the word ‘porn’ itself.
Although it did happen for people searching ‘Brexit’ last month, it’s not often that people search a particular topic on Google more than they do porn, but Pokemon managed it at the weekend and has been increasing its lead every day since.
As well as that, Pokemon Go currently has more active daily users worldwide than Twitter or Tinder and although it’s very much flavour of the month right now, that’s some reflection of its popularity, fleeting though it might be.
We wouldn’t count on it remaining more popular than porn as far as Google searches are concerned for too long, however; that's a race it's not going to run in the long run.
