Dublin Airport cleared for takeoff after security balls-up

The tighter security restrictions Dublin Airport were forced to implement after failing an EU inspection have now been removed.

A European Commission on security measures at the airport last month left DAA bosses red-faced. It was never revealed how security was lacking at both the terminals for safety reasons.

However serious they were, we didn't just get wrapped on the knuckles for leaving a fire escape open. The commission felt the breaches of security were severe enough that plane searches would have to be resumed.

Other stricter security measures put in place in the wake of the report have now been completed removed after a new EC inspection two days ago.

Transport minister Leo Varadkar told RTÉ: "the EC were in town two days ago, and we've passed the audit this time."

Varadkar went a bit hell for leather at scolding the airport when the breaches were revealed, so it's only fitting that he announce the repeal of stricter security.
