It's been a long, long wait for avian app fans but Angry Birds have finally launched on Facebook today - having been downloaded over 500 million times worldwide.
At this stage developer Rovio's app juggernaut has appeared seemingly everywhere - even in overpriced box form - but only today has the title finally made it to the world's biggest social network.
Rovio chief marketing officer Peter Vesterbacka has hopes for the title too, as he believes 40% of Facebook users may pay for the game's add-ons. Even before the app went live in browser form today, the page of Angry Birds had received 15 million 'Likes'.
“We’re looking to emerging markets this year,” said Vesterbacka, mentioning that the game was released early to Facebook users in Jakarta, Indonesia, as the country has the world second-highest concentration of users after the US.
Some people think Angry Birds is a fad, that soon everyone will care about something else,” he added. “But we want to make Angry Birds a permanent part of popular culture.”
The series has already spawned plush toys, books and shirts, while a CGI movie is also believed to be in the works. You can try the Facebook version of Angry Birds at this link.
